The Archives of Vojvodina Visit the ”Novi Sad 2021” ECC Foundation

Today on the 8th of February 2019, the Director of the Archives of Vojvodina Dr. Nebojša Kuzmanović attended a meeting with his associates Kristijan Obšust, MA and Ljiljana Bubnjević, archivist, with the Arts Director of the ”Novi Sad 2021” Foundation, Dr. Lazar Jovanov.

The topics of the meeting were discussions about advancing mutual cooperation on a national and international level. One of the more important projects is the Mapping of places of remembrance and remembrance culture of Novi Sad, presented by its creator and project coordinator Kristijan Obšust as a years-long project dedicated to mapping, recording, interpreting and presenting different locations – places of collective memory and commemoration, as well as other locations that are important for remembrance culture, collective memory and the identity of the city as a whole.

The project started out with the goal of affirming and researching remembrance culture, nurturing critical remembrance culture, as well as researching different forms of the city’s collective memory.

By the end of 2014, an internet presentation was created for the purpose of achieving the set goals, which was the first phase of the project, whereby the presentation was completely devoted to all sorts of segments of researched topics. In that context, this site with a specially formed and uniquely imagined interactive map and data base created during the mapping process, as well as additional library content, represents the basic result of activities devoted to the realization of the project. All o the available content refers to different aspects of the topics connected to the remembrance culture and the city’s collective memory and as such uniquely contribute to the affirmation of these topics on a general level.

The data base and library of texts that are available on the site enable the visitors to, through a vast variety of critically presented facts and educationally conceptualized texts, get to know the different aspects of remembrance culture, aka the places of remembrance and locations of official commemoration in the Novi Sad area. Likewise when talking about the presented personal memories of the citizens, or more specifically the mapped locations of personal memories that are located in the data base, they present a special kind of important documented materials.

Taking into consideration the scope and complexity of the analyzed topics, the complexity of the methodological procedure of interdisciplinary research and the mapping process, as well as the conditioned dynamic of the realization, the project will take years to be realized and it will be achieved in several phases.

Dr. Lazar Jovanov noted that the ”Novi Sad 2021” Foundation is ready for future cooperation in the form of connecting wider project activities of the aforementioned project.
