The president of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), ambassador Georges Santer, and secretary of the Alliance Lennart Aldick, were visiting Serbia on November 20-21. After meeting with officials in Belgrade, high guests headed to Novi Sad where Terraforming network organized a meeting with local activists in the field of memory, education and research of the Holocaust. The meeting was organized in order to experts and activists from Novi Sad and Vojvodina get better knowing of the work and goals of the IHRA, on the one hand, and on the other, to inform the president of Alice about the state and development of the remembrance culture in this area of Sebia, as well to give him an opportunity to directly talk to the representatives of some of the actors on this field.
Through the non-official and relaxed conversation that was moderated by Miško Stanišić from Terraforming, this interchange included Nevena Bajalica, Terraforming co-founder and the member of the delegation of the Republic of Serbia in the IHRA, the representatives of the Jewish Community of Novi Sad Olga Andraši and Fedor Fišl, Roma Students Initiative Marina Simeunović, Roma Students Union Nenad Vladisavljev, the Archives of Vojvodina Aleksandar Bursać, director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Siniša Jokić, Foundation Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture Lazar Jovanov, journalist and author Vlada Todorović, and professor in Gymnasium Jovan Jovanović Zmaj and author Marija Vasić.
Through a conversation that last for almost three hours, ambassador Santer and secretary Aldick were informed on different activities, initiatives, needs, as well as the problems we meet, while participants from Novi Sad learned more about tasks, mission and organizational structure of the IHRA, opportunities and ways in which Alliance supports such activities, and how could they can help the Alliance by themselves. The president, ambassador Georges Santer, and secretary Lennart Aldick, as well as all other participants, were very pleased with this meeting.
