On the 27th of October 2020, His Excellency Yahel Vilan, Israeli Ambassador to Serbia, visited the Archives of Vojvodina. The honorable guest was greeted by the Director of the Archives of Vojvodina Dr. Nebojša Kuzmanović together with his associates Ljiljana Dožić, Head of the Department for Documentation, Information and the Information System, and archivists Ljiljana Bubnjević and Aleksandar Bursać.
During the discussion period, Director Kuzmanović wished the Ambassador a warm welcome and introduced him to the activities of the Archives of Vojvodina. Special attention was given to the activities of the Archives of Vojvodina up until this point which includes the nurturing of the heritage of the Jewish community in Vojvodina. Ambassador Vilan was informed about the close cooperation between the Archives and Yad Vashem the World Holocaust Remembrance Center which is in force since an agreement was signed in March of 2020. Director Kuzmanović gave the Ambassador a few publications of the Archives of Vojvodina including the ”The Deportation of the Jews of Bačka 1944” book, published in cooperation with the ”Danubius” association, whose English version is soon to be expected. Likewise, the Ambassador was presented with archival records that deal with the Holocaust.
His Excellency Yahel Vilan listened to the presentation, by Director Kuzmanović and his associates, with great interest and focus whereby he expressed his desire to, in the following period, support the activities of the Archives of Vojvodina that have the goal of expanding the cultural ties between Israel and Serbia. As for the rest of the visit, the Ambassador saw the depots of the Archives where he was shown the most valuable documents which are stored there, including the oldest document located in the Archives of Vojvodina, a breviary from the 12th/13th century.
