The Ambassador of the USA at a Exhibition of Archival Documents at the Archives of Vojvodina


On the 29th of November 2018, the Ambassador of the United States of America in the Republic of Serbia, Kyle Scott, Cultural Attache Michael Brooke, Public Affairs Counselor Timothy Standaert as well as members of the US delegation visited the Archives of Vojvodina and had a look at the ”Avantura na Balkanu 1915” (Adventure in the Balkans 1915) exhibition of archival documetns, named after a manuscript of the same name written by an American Douglas Dold, member of the Columbia Relief Expedition to Serbia from the Columbia University during 1915. The exhibition was organized to commemorate the one hundred year anniversary of the end of the First World War and the unification of the territories of Vojvodina with the Kingdom of Serbia in 1918.

On the 29th of November 2018, the Ambassador of the United States of America in the Republic of Serbia, Kyle Scott, Cultural Attache Michael Brooke, Public Affairs Counselor Timothy Standaert as well as members of the US delegation visited the Archives of Vojvodina and had a look at the ”Avantura na Balkanu 1915” (Adventure in the Balkans 1915) exhibition of archival documetns, named after a manuscript of the same name written by an American Douglas Dold, member of the Columbia Relief Expedition to Serbia from the Columbia University during 1915. The exhibition was organized to commemorate the one hundred year anniversary of the end of the First World War and the unification of the territories of Vojvodina with the Kingdom of Serbia in 1918.

The guests, with professional guidance by the author of the exhibition as well as the Director of the Archives of Vojvodina, fisrt had a look at the exhibition that testified about the humanitarian mission of the Columbia expedition members, that came from America to help Serbia by the request of their professor Mihajlo Pupin (Michael Pupin), a Serbian from Idvor and world renowned scientist.

Likewise, during the visit to the Archives of Vojvodina, Dr. Nebojša Kuzmanović, Director of the Archives, presented Kyle Scott and members of the USA delegation the oldest document that is stored in the Archives of Vojvodina, a fragment of a manuscript on a sheet of parchment, which was created around the 12th or 13th century and is the oldest archival holding in the Archives of Vojvodina and is among the oldest and rarest samples of manuscript goods that are located in the institutions of culture in the Republic of Serbia. Apart from that, the guests were presented with other documents, cultural property of exceptional importance, created in the 18th and 19th century (charters, diplomas, maps…) that are stored and professionally kept in the Archives of Vojvodina.

After that, the Ambassador and his associates were presented with the archival holdings that refer to Serbian-American relations and cooperation. The Director of the Archives of Vojvodina presented his Excellency Kyle Scott with a gift, a copy of an invitation by the Embassy of the USA to an exhibition of photographs about the American life during war and peace, that was held in Novi Sad on the 3rd of August 1945.
